At this point, I'm pretty sure my brain and body aren't made of molecules or atoms anymore, but of tiles. I didn't even really remember this obsession with tiles until a couple of days ago when a picture of one of these pretty little things popped up, and I've been in a tiled wormhole ever since. It's like my subconscious was yearning for repeating patterns, only to unleash it all at once with the power of a single swipe.
Some people scroll past these designs, but for some reason, I get the same rush from a well-aligned mosaic as some people (including me) get from a coffee. I feel like tiles have an energy that's equal parts sophisticated and unhinged. The right combination makes you feel like you're in a palazzo. The wrong one makes it look like your childhood babysitter crashed your LEGO creation and never left as is.
Sometime a couple of months ago, I forgot how satisfying it is to spot a herringbone, a checkerboard in a wild kitchen, or a hallway that accidentally doubled as an optical illusion. These are the true building blocks of happiness.
Here's a collection of tile designs that have taken over my feed and my thoughts. If you want a quick dopamine hit and a tantrum over grout lines, you're in the right place. Welcome to the tiled wormhole.
